Genesis and Growth

In post-Independence India, the teaching of English was ignored in government-run schools, especially in the northern states. Affluent families chose to send their wards to English-medium schools, whereas people from the lower economic strata and weaker sections of society were unable to do so due to unaffordability. This resulted in a wider social gap as well as a greater division between the haves and have-nots. A situation of gross inequality prevailed with job opportunities being denied to the unprivileged.

It was this prevailing system of privilege on the one hand and denial on the other that British Lingua chose to address. By giving easy and unfettered access to the study of English, it aimed at restoring the social equilibrium and providing equal opportunity to all, irrespective of station in life. This marked its genesis in Patna in 1993.

Our Philosophy

We at British Lingua, firmly believe in the concept of the global village as well as vasudhaiv kutumbakam (the world is a single family). With the advent of a multi-faceted digital world, this concept is more significant now than ever before and English has become the link language.

It provides the vital communication medium for our Brave New World. Knowledge of English has a socio-economic impact for the individual as well as for society at large, especially in India. On a wider scale, English provides the vital bridge between a global population that speaks as many as 5000 languages and dialects.

Growth continues apace

Beginning in a small room with only two students back in 1993, British Lingua has grown by leaps and bounds. It now has more than 16 study centres spread across the country. It has been instrumental in providing English instruction to lakhs. It has successfully placed its students both inside the country and abroad in fields such as call centres, event management, FMCG, aviation and PR.

Infrastructure

The organization is well-equipped with classrooms, auditorium and an elaborate computer networking. It has more than 150 well-qualified language trainers, experts in areas like grammar, accent, group discussion, etc. It is competent enough to take up any assignments from the target groups.

Teaching Module

Our teaching methodology lays emphasis on oral communication skills.

We have evolved a structural-cum-interactive method that focuses on effective English communication. Through our method we enable learners to have a quick grasp of the language. They are to frame sentences quickly, thereby facilitating communication. Our interactive approach kindles an interest in verbal and social contact with others.

The module relies heavily on audio-visual tools. This makes for easier learning and greater facility in English. A vast collection of audio and video CDs give the students a chance to see how the language is spoken by native speakers.

The emphasis at British Lingua is not only on improving language skills but also on developing a well-rounded personality to make for more mature and responsible individuals.
